12 ~ The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is a complex card depicting a very rich image. There is, on one hand, the theme of sacrifice which is related to the wounded body of St. Sebastian, and the theme of cyclical death and menses tied to the changing seasons signified by the bear which returns to the cave/womb to hibernate each winter.


Divinatory Meanings: A period of stasis, a project pending. Possible sacrifice. Voluntarily releasing conscious control, or the ego.
